Description

The Inverted Jenny is the most famous error in American philatelic history. On May 14, 1918, collector William Robey purchased a sheet of 100 airmail stamps in which the Curtiss JN-4 biplane was printed upside down—the only such sheet ever found. Individual stamps from that sheet have sold for more than a million dollars; originals are on display at the National Postal Museum. This framed and matted stamp is Scott 4806, the 2013 $2 reissue, printed from plates made using the original 1918 dyes.

The Smithsonian's National Postal Museum is dedicated to the preservation, study, and presentation of postal history and philately. The museum uses exhibitions, educational public programs and research to make this rich history available to scholars, philatelists, collectors and visitors from around the world.
