Description

Adorn any metal surface with this fanciful quartet of hand-enameled Cloisonné Butterfly Magnets—each uniquely shaped and individually patterned. Butterflies are symbols of joy in Chinese culture and whether they brighten your home as butterfly refrigerator magnets or visit your garden as pollinators, they are always welcome.

Museum Story

An art form originating in the Middle East and elevated in China, after its arrival there in the 13th and 14th centuries, the cloisonné technique adorns copper or bronze objects with copper wire designs. The resulting cells are then filled with enamel, fired in a kiln and polished, creating a harmonious contrast between the gleaming metal and the jewel-hued enamel. These charming Cloisonné Butterfly Magnets are reminiscent of butterfly depictions found on cloisonné vases in our National Museum of Natural History's Asian ethnological collections.

I bought three of these, one for myself and two to give away for gifts. Packaged very well but the magnet fell out of one as I put it on my fridge. Thank God for Elmer's glue. They obviously don't have good glue in China. Virginia City, NV

We bought these butterflies for a friend's birthday present. They were a big hit. The pictures online don't do them justice-they are much prettier. One note: when you get giftrwapping, that's what you get. These items come in a cardboard box that says "MADE IN CHINA" in huge letters, which was an annoyance for me (though our friend didn't care), so I would have liked to know about the box ahead of time. Otherwise, it was simply perfect. San Antonio

This was given to my mom as a Mothers Day gift and sent directly to her from the catalog. when she opened the box, she told me they were pretty... and then immediately the magnets on the back of three of the four popped off! She told me she could re-attach them with a hot glue gun, but really! That is NOT the kind of gift you want to give your mother on Mothers Day!! Washington, DC

I bought this for a birthday gift for my sister who is really into butterflies. They are nice and the magnet is fairly powerful. They will serve their purpose of holding papers, coupons, etc. on the refrigerator. Houston, TX

The magnets are pretty strong. The designs are beautiful. Since they are a recent purchase, I can't comment about durability. Chicago
