Description

Adorn your refrigerator (or any metal surface) with this fanciful quartet of hand-enameled Cloisonné Butterfly Magnets—each uniquely shaped and individually patterned. Butterflies are symbols of joy in Chinese culture. Set of 4. Made in China.

Museum Story

An art form originating in the Middle East and elevated in China, after its arrival there in the 13th and 14th centuries, the cloisonné technique adorns copper or bronze objects with copper wire designs. The resulting cells are then filled with enamel, fired in a kiln and polished, creating a harmonious contrast between the gleaming metal and the jewel-hued enamel. These charming Cloisonné Butterfly Magnets are reminiscent of butterfly depictions found on cloisonné vases in our National Museum of Natural History's Asian ethnological collections.

Pretty design, wife loved them. On one of the butterflies, the metal cup that the magnet fit in was bent causing the magnet not to seat properly. A little hot-glue and all is well though. Portland, OR

These refrigerator magnets are very substantial, yet delicate in appearance, and each one is painted with a very beautiful and intricate design. I bought four sets. One for myself and three gifts. This is a gift that can be enjoyed and is useful through the whole year. Olympia, WA
