Description

Adorn your refrigerator (or any metal surface) with this fanciful quartet of hand-enameled Cloisonné Butterfly Magnets—each uniquely shaped and individually patterned. Butterflies are symbols of joy in Chinese culture. Set of 4. Made in China.

Museum Story

An art form originating in the Middle East and elevated in China, after its arrival there in the 13th and 14th centuries, the cloisonné technique adorns copper or bronze objects with copper wire designs. The resulting cells are then filled with enamel, fired in a kiln and polished, creating a harmonious contrast between the gleaming metal and the jewel-hued enamel. These charming Cloisonné Butterfly Magnets are reminiscent of butterfly depictions found on cloisonné vases in our National Museum of Natural History's Asian ethnological collections.

I bought these butterflies for my sister-in-law who collects butterflies. They were absolutely beautiful that I almost kept them for myself. Since they wouldn't stick to my stainless steel fridge, I wrapped them up for her Christmas gift but I did have an internal debate for a few minutes. They are elegant and rich looking. I used these separately as small thank you gifts. They are as pretty as pictured but perhaps a little lighter weight than I expected. Hockessin, Delaware

I opened the box and immediately put them on my refrigerator. One of them just fell on the floor. Apparently it broke away from the magnet because the magnet was still on the frig. I am afraid to move the others because they don't seem secure............... St. Johnsbury, VT
