This book has beautiful photographs of adult butterflies. with descriptions, size, and range provided. It is chunky - the blurb said it would fit in a pocket, but it would need to be a large pocket! Good for just browsing, a bit weak on foodstuffs and caterpillar appearance for a field guide. For those of us who just love butterflies (down to my four-year-old granddaughter) it's gorgeous. I purchased this book for a gift to a "lover of butterflies" and am definitely impressed with the quality, size and stunning photographs. It is very informative and a real pleasure to read as you learn about all of these wonderful creatures. I definitely recommend this book and gifts in general from Smithsonian - they are outstanding and not "run of the mill." I hope to buy another copy of this book soon as a gift . Texas
