Description
A fleeting moment of winter magic is permanently suspended in this beautiful snowglobe of an intricate, crystalline snowflake. Its scientific precision recalls photographs by Wilson "Snowflake" Bentley, a Vermont meteorologist who was the first known person to photograph snowflakes.
Bentley described snowflakes as "tiny miracles of beauty" and "ice flowers." This snowflake snow globe captures his sense of wonder and makes a subtle winter holiday decoration and gorgeous pieces of home decor all year long.
Museum Story
In 1903 Wilson Bentley sent many prints of his snowflake microphotographs to the Smithsonian, hoping they might be of interest to Secretary Samuel P. Langley. They are now a part of the Smithsonian Institution Archives.
