Description

Creating atmospheric prints of Japanese architecture and landscapes, Kawase Hasui made a name for himself as one of modern Japan's most prominent and recognizable printmakers. Bold images and clear lines show the influence of Western realistic art and differentiate his prints from those of his contemporaries. A gentle snowfall speaks quietly of winter in this stunning woodblock print.

Museum Story

The Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, the Smithsonian's National Museum of Asian Art, opened to the public in 1923, a gift to the nation from Charles Lang Freer.
