Description

Named Best Interior Designer by CNN and Time magazine in 2001, Sheila Bridges's true passion is design. Her work is often identified through its bold use of color and its careful blending of classical pieces with contemporary finishes and layered textures. In a recent interview about her Hudson, New York, home, Hay House, for the New York Times, she explained, "That's the beauty of mixing periods. I love mixing old and new, and modern, and it makes it easier to embrace the things that may have belonged to your family if you're not so rigid about only having one style of furnishings in your home."

Bridges' square silk scarf, Seneca Village, tells the story of residents of this thriving, predominantly Black New York City neighborhood that was razed by the city in 1857 to build Central Park. By combining images of historic photographs, maps, and artifacts with bright, contemporary colors, Bridges blends history and Afrofuturism in a silk scarf that is also beautiful to wear.
