This five-strand, iridescent pearl necklace is handcrafted using color-enhanced shells, each knotted one-by-one on silk cord. The stainless steel hook clasp is easy to secure on one's own. Our Blue Mother of Pearl Necklace contains a range of hues from steel blue to navy to denim to cerulean, all with an opalescent glaze that ensures no two will be exactly alike—and it will look different in every light.

I love this Mother of Pearl necklace. The colors in the necklace can be worn with a number of dresses I have with varying colors: navy, tan, burnt orange and white.

Customer Rating: 4 out of 5 Love these kinds of necklaces --- But Only 5 strands

The mother-of-pearl necklace was very well-made and the colors are great. I have a similar necklace that I did purchase from a different provider and love the look and feel. However, the Smithsonian necklace was advertised on the web site and in the catalog as having 6 strands but it only had 5. I called customer service and alerted them to the fact that the description of the product needed to be updated. Additionally, I asked for a larger box as this purchase is a birthday gift and one I received was quite small for the lengthy necklace. I was told that the Smithsonian could not send me a more appropriately sized box. I am on the hunt for a proper box for the gift I will be send to a friend.

First, there are NOT six strands as described, just five. Second, there is almost no blue in the necklace at all, yet it is described as "navy!" I am very disappointed.
