Description
Jimi Hendrix profoundly shaped the sound of rock guitar and influenced the direction of popular music. He was also a fashion icon of the psychedelic 1960s. The appearance of a Black man dressed so freely during the civil rights era made a powerful impression on his audience, including the crowd at the 1969 Newport Pop Festival where Hendrix performed in a silk kimono much like one owned and worn by him that is part of the National Museum of African American History and Culture's Afrofuturism: A History of Black Futures exhibition. Our vintage-inspired t-shirt celebrates that iconic Newport performance and supports museum programming.
