Semiprecious with attitude, each stylish stretch bracelet accents polished gemstones—purple amethyst, blue sodalite, or turquoise howlite—with tassels, textured circle charms, and matching gems. Natural variations will occur with this Semiprecious Gem Tassel Bracelet Set.
The semiprecious stones of this Semiprecious Gem Tassel Bracelet Set are representative of amethyst, sodalite and howlite curated by the Smithsonian’s National Gem and Mineral Collection, housed at our National Museum of Natural History. One of the greatest collections of its kind, the National Gem and Mineral Collection includes over 375,00 individual specimens and such treasured pieces as the Hope Diamond, the Tiffany Amethyst Necklace, and the turquoise Marie Louise Diadem.
Discovered in Nova Scotia in 1868, howlite is a borate mineral which is typically white or grayish white with fine veins, often in a web-like pattern. Because of its porosity, howlite is often dyed to imitate other minerals, especially turquoise. Howlite is also known as white buffalo stone.
Deriving its name from its sodium content, sodalite is an opaque blue gemstone, almost always veined with white calcite. Shades of sodalite range from light to deep royal blue and from grayish blue to violet.
The most valuable gem variety of crystalline quartz, amethyst ranges in color from pale lilac to deep reddish purple. The official birthstone for those born in February, amethyst is said to help maintain calm and composure.
