Museum Story

The Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, Behring Center, is responsible for the collection, care and preservation of more than three million objects. In 1919, officers of the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA) presented a portrait of Susan B. Anthony and other suffrage memorabilia to the Smithsonian while the ratification of the 19th Amendment was still in process.
