Description

The National Museum of African American History & Culture: A Souvenir Book showcases some of the most influential and important treasures of the National Museum of African American History and Culture's collections. These include a hymn book owned by Harriet Tubman; ankle shackles used to restrain enslaved people on ships during the Middle Passage; a dress that Rosa Parks was making shortly before she was arrested; a vintage, open-cockpit Tuskegee Airmen trainer plane; Muhammad Ali's headgear; an 1835 Bill of Sale enslaving a young girl named Polly; and Chuck Berry's Cadillac. These objects tell us the full story of African American history, of triumphs and tragedies and highs and lows.

The NMAAHC Souvenir Book showcases the extraordinary treasures in the museum. The radiant colors, illustrations and pictures are filled with positive energy. I visited the museum in December 2018 and recently purchased the book for more memories.

why is this the only Smithsonian museum to have a souvenir booklet? Why is there none for Native American, Air and Space, Udvar Hazy, Freer, etc. I always purchase books pertaining to the museum or exhibit i have attended as a keepsake and to show friends what they might expect when they visit. The Mall itself also needs one to reference all the monuments and buildings histories, etc., with a brief history, location, significance, etc., etc. Allentown PA

I bought this souvenir book to share with my family before we visited the museum. It generated a short list of artifacts to seek during our two-day visit. On the night between visits, I reviewed the book again to make sure I knew what to look for on my last day. We will return to this museum again in the future, but it was important to maximize our experience on this first visit. This small book helped us do it, and it was light weight enough to take along for the walk from our hotel to the NMAAHC and throughout our visit. Durham, NC
