These Spring Gemstone Swag Pierced Earrings celebrate sodalite in our National Gem Collection at our National Museum of Natural History. One of the greatest collections of its kind, the National Gem and Mineral Collection includes over 375,000 individual specimens and treasured jewelry pieces.
Deriving its name from its sodium content, sodalite is an opaque blue gemstone, almost always veined with white calcite. Shades of sodalite range from light to deep royal blue and from grayish blue to violet.

A green gemstone variety of the mineral feldspar used extensively by the Egyptians, amazonite displays a lustrous reflection similar to iridescence. Often called the stone of courage, some believe this semi-opaque stone is named for the mythical Amazon women warriors.
