Among the most endangered animals on earth, an African lion (Luke) along with 2 lionesses (Nababiep and Shera) and six cubs born in 2014, all reside in the habitat at the Smithsonian National Zoo’s Great Cats Exhibit atop Lion/Tiger Hill. These regal animals are ambassadors for the National Zoo’s conservation and science initiatives.
Lion artworks can be found in the collections of our Freer Gallery of Art, Hirshhorn Museum, Cooper-Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, and our National Museum of African Art.
