Store favorite jewelry pieces in this intricately "feathered" Petite Peacock Jewelry Box whose hand-painted plumage (sides as well as lid) is worthy of the jewelry it will hold and guard. Three felt-lined interior sections, one with ring slots. Mirrored lid. Footed underside. Zinc, epoxy.
Redecorated in 1876-77 by James McNeill Whistler (of Whistler’s Mother fame) with peacock-themed murals, panels, patterns, and palette, this former London dining room was purchased by Charles Lang Freer in 1904, moved to his Detroit mansion, and later donated to our Freer Gallery of Art. This stunning Petite Peacock Jewelry Box takes its inspiration from this beautiful room.

"This is a very pretty box. There is a nice heft to it. Colors are hands down the prettiest I ' ve seen. Similar boxes have nothing on this piece. Very nice"

"Seems to be pressed out of metal, without any bling? or other enhancements to make it really attractive."

"The peacock design is pretty, but I was disappointed that is not as bright as pictured. The construction is excellent and it is mirrored inside. It is pretty enough to not return, but I wouldn't have ordered (for my decor), if I'd known it wasn't more bright and colorful. I am saying I would recommend it, because I would recommend ALL Smithsonian products, as they are unique."
