Navajo Sterling Silver Concha Clip Earrings
Item #42240
We regret that this item is not available at this time.
The petaled splendor of these Navajo Sterling Silver Concha Clip Earrings is painstakingly hand-stamped by a Navajo silversmith. Classic beauty emblematic of the Navajo tradition of jewelry making, these Navajo Sterling Silver Concha Clip Earrings feature clip backs. Handcrafted in the U.S.A. As the earrings are hand-stamped, slight variations ensure each is truly unique.
Originally conchas—like these Navajo Sterling Silver Concha Clip Earrings—were linked together to form Navajo belts, one of the most compelling designs of the Navajo silversmith’s art. The use of conchas is believed to have been inspired by the conchas adorning the headstalls of Mexican bridles. Handmade conchas like these are time-consuming to make, with each design element being struck one at a time with a home-made die and a hand hammer. Our National Museum of the American Indian curates hundreds of Navajo jewelry pieces, including silver concha belts, buckles, buttons, brooches and earrings.
