Navajo Silver Butterfly Brooch
Tell A Friend
Stunningly detailed, this sculptural Navajo Silver Butterfly Brooch is handmade by Navajo silver artisan Lee Charley who uses scrolls and beadwork to embellish his stamped butterfly design. Oxidized to delineate its beauty, this one-of-a-kind Navajo Silver Butterfly Brooch is stamped on the back with the artist’s hallmark, L.C. Sterling silver. Handcrafted in the U.S.A.
A wearable work of art, the elegance of Lee Charley’s Navajo Silver Butterfly Brooch derives from its finely hand-stamped “markings,” each line of which was struck one-at-a-time with a home-made die and hand hammer. Metalsmiths before they were silver artisans, Navajo jewelry makers used Mexican leather tools before commercially-made stamps became available. The National Museum of the American Indian curates numerous examples of hand-stamped Navajo sterling silver jewelry.
