Beautifully handcrafted by Navajo silversmith James McCabe, the top bead of these Navajo Silver and Turquoise Squash Blossom Pierced Earrings is cleverly fashioned from vintage dimes that have been domed and soldered together. The classic squash blossom designs of these Navajo Silver and Turquoise Squash Blossom Pierced Earrings are accented with discs of Kingman turquoise—well known for its blue hues and light-brown-to-black matrices. Heavy sterling silver. Handcrafted in the U.S.A. Naturally occurring turquoise variations and individually crafted squash blossoms assure these earrings are one-of-a-kind.
These Navajo Squash Blossom Silver Pierced Earrings recall the many squash-blossom jewelry artifacts in the National Museum of the American Indian. Squash-blossom pendants are variations on silver pomegranate flower adornments Spanish colonial gentlemen wore on their clothing. (Because the squash blossom and pomegranate motifs are similar, or perhaps because the Navajo preferred to give the design their own name, the Navajo have long called the pomegranate designs squash blossoms.) Many squash blossom jewelry pieces are curated by our National Museum of the American Indian.
