Like beautiful flowers, these hand-stamped Navajo Silver and Turquoise Concha Clip Earrings are petaled disks, or conchas, centered by turquoise cabochons with scalloped bezels. Artisan crafted by a Navajo silversmith, these Navajo Silver and Turquoise Concha Clip Earrings are fashioned from sterling silver. Clip backs. Handcrafted in the U.S.A. Naturally occurring turquoise variations assure each pair of earrings is unique.
Originally conchas—like these Navajo Silver and Turquoise Concha Clip Earrings—were linked together to form Navajo belts, one of the most compelling designs of the Navajo silversmith’s art. The use of conchas is believed to have been inspired by the conchas adorning the headstalls of Mexican bridles. Handmade conchas like these are time-consuming to make, with each design element being struck one at a time with a home-made die and a hand hammer. Our National Museum of the American Indian curates hundreds of Navajo jewelry pieces, including silver concha belts, buckles, buttons, brooches and earrings.
