Crafted entirely by hand by Navajo artisan Phillip Sanchez, this romantic Navajo Purple Spiny Oyster Heart Pendant Necklace presents a bezel-set cabochon of heart-shaped purple spiny oyster in an elegantly stamped setting. The artist’s hallmark, P. Sanchez, is stamped on the back of this exquisite Navajo Purple Spiny Oyster Heart Pendant Necklace. Sterling silver. Handcrafted in the U.S.A. Naturally occurring spiny oyster variations and individually crafted settings assure each necklace is unique.
The beautiful, polished heart cabochon of this Navajo Purple Spiny Oyster Heart Pendant Necklace is fashioned from the shell of unusual spiky bivalves, commonly known as spiny oysters. Found in the Gulf of California and along the Pacific coast, spiny oyster shells with their extravagant range of colors (purple to orange, red and yellow) have been used in Native American jewelry for centuries. Several of the hundreds of pieces of silver Navajo jewelry curated by our National Museum of the American Indian feature shell adornments.

"The pendant is a good size, not too flashy or dainty. Love the purple color of the spiny lobster. The carved silver backing is subtle but well done and adds to the overall look."
