The Kingman mine that produced the turquoise for this Navajo Kingman Turquoise Nugget Bead Bracelet was first worked by ancient Native American civilizations. Rediscovered in the 1880s, Navajo hammers and polishing tools were found there along with Native American hammers from 600 CE. Among the hundreds of Navajo jewelry pieces curated by the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian are many necklaces featuring Kingman turquoise.
8"l. Naturally occurring turquoise assures each bracelet is one-of-a-kind.
Highly regarded by ancient civilizations for its unique aqua coloring, turquoise is a rare phosphate of copper that only forms in the earth's most dry and barren regions. The name turquoise derives from the fact that this gemstone was brought to Europe from eastern Mediterranean traders, known as Turks. Colors can range from green and greenish blue to sky blue. Turquoise is a birthstone for December.
