Entirely handmade by a Navajo silversmith with exceptional skill in lapidary work, this Navajo 6-Strand Kingman Turquoise Bead and Nugget Necklace suspends a stunning 6-strand swag of individually shaped Sleeping Beauty turquoise nuggets from single strands of Sleeping Beauty turquoise beads. The accent beads and lobster clasp of this Navajo 6-Strand Kingman Turquoise Bead and Nugget Necklace are handmade in sterling silver. Unearthed from ancient Kingman turquoise mines in northwest Arizona, the gorgeous blue hues and light brown to black matrices of these Kingman turquoise nuggets and beads illustrate their legendary beauty. Handcrafted in the U.S.A. Naturally occurring turquoise variations and handcrafted sterling silver findings assure each necklace is unique.
The Kingman mine that produced the turquoise for this Navajo 6-Strand Kingman Turquoise Bead and Nugget Necklace was first worked by ancient Native American civilizations. Rediscovered in the 1880s, Navajo hammers and polishing tools were found there along with Native American hammers from 600 CE. Among the hundreds of Navajo jewelry pieces curated by the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian are many necklaces featuring Kingman turquoise.
