This Mauve and Cream Peonies in Glass Vase presents two silken peonies—deep mauve and a variegated cream-mauve—in a glass vase with illusory water. Symbols of good fortune, these exceptionally realistic peonies are hand-arrayed in the U.S.A.
Peonies, similar to the silken ones presented in this Mauve and Cream Peonies in Glass Vase, are cultivated in our National Museum of American History's Heirloom Garden. Designed by the Smithsonian Gardens landscape architects Paul Lindell and Karen Swanson, the Heirloom Garden opened in 1998. The plants chosen for its raised bed are ones that grew in American gardens from colonial times until 1950, when the use of hybrids became widespread.
