Smithsonian Exclusive Smithsonian Institution Exclusive

These regal Elizabethan "Garnet" Pierced Earrings are inspired by an enamel and garnet gem from the Cheapside Hoard collection. The greatest collection of Elizabethan and Jacobean jewelry ever found, the cache was discovered beneath London's busy Cheapside Street where it had lain undisturbed for nearly 300 years. These sublimely feminine pierced earrings dangle faceted cubic zirconia in a rich garnet color and dainty enamelwork flowers. Gold-finished pewter.
The National Gem Collection at our National Museum of Natural History curates a treasure trove of historic jewelry pieces, most notably the Hope Diamond, the Marie Antoinette Diamond Earrings, the Napoleon Diamond Necklace, the Marie Louise Diadem, the Maximillian Emerald, and an antique Pyrope (red garnet) Hair Comb.
