Adorn your refrigerator (or any metal surface) with this fanciful quartet of hand-enameled Cloisonné Butterfly Magnets—each uniquely shaped and individually patterned. Butterflies are symbols of joy in Chinese culture. Set of 4. Made in China.
An art form originating in the Middle East and elevated in China, after its arrival there in the 13th and 14th centuries, the cloisonné technique adorns copper or bronze objects with copper wire designs. The resulting cells are then filled with enamel, fired in a kiln and polished, creating a harmonious contrast between the gleaming metal and the jewel-hued enamel. These charming Cloisonné Butterfly Magnets are reminiscent of butterfly depictions found on cloisonné vases in our National Museum of Natural History’s Asian ethnological collections.

"I originally received one butterfly as a gift along with other club members. Mine has been very stable and beautiful. I became interested in the Smithsonian and have since ordered several sets. I've given two sets recently to friends who were thrilled. I also ordered booklets on butterfly blessings and included one along with the magnets."
