Tell A Friend
A child-friendly history of the cherry trees in our nation's capital, Cherry Blossom Friends is a fully illustrated picture book that tells about the gifts associated with these cherry trees—animals, fresh air, and the long friendship between the United States and Japan. Fun facts will teach first and second graders about the monuments around the National Mall. Riddles will teach them about the animals that live among the cherry trees and in the greater Washington area.
The Smithsonian's Freer Gallery of Art curates a number of Edo period Japanese screens, panels, and scrolls which depict cherry blossoms or scenes of cherry blossom viewing. Many in the Gallery's collection were donated by Charles Lang Freer who also donated the Freer Gallery to the Smithsonian.
