Delicately wrought in sterling silver, these Baltic Amber Snowflake Pierced Earrings are centered with luminous cabochons of honey Baltic amber. Handmade by Polish amber artisans and silversmiths, the snowflakes and eurowires are sterling silver. Natural variations will occur.
Spectacular amber jewelry, beads, and specimens—evocative of the amber cabochon gracing these Baltic Amber Snowflake Pierced Earrings—are curated by our National Museum of Natural History, the world's preeminent museum and research complex dedicated to inspiring curiosity, discovery and learning about the natural world. Scientists and researchers explore areas of anthropology, ethnology, botany, entomology, invertebrate and vertebrate zoology and the mineral sciences.
Prized since the Stone Age, treasured by ancient civilizations, as well as 18th and 19th century European monarchs, amber (particularly 40,000 to 50,000 year old Baltic amber) is still highly valued for its natural translucence. A glowing organic gemstone (naturally occurring in various shades of brown, yellow, or green), amber is actually the fossilized resin of prehistoric trees. Natural inclusions such as plant life or insects increase its worth.

"The earrings are really nice-looking, but upon the second time I wore them (after I bought them) the closing mechanism of one of the earrings broke, forming an X now instead of tightly clasping, which made them drop that earring twice already. It is really disappointing as they were not cheap and they are sold by an institution that prides itself by offering quality products."
