A brilliant marriage of natural elements, the head and tail of this Baltic Amber Honeybee Pin is delicately fashioned from gem-quality Baltic amber in delectable shades of cognac and butterscotch. The finely wrought body and openwork wings are oxidized sterling silver. Natural variations will occur.
A celebration of the splendid amber specimens, talismans, and jewelry curated by our National Museum of Natural History, our exclusive Baltic Amber Jewelry Collection (entirely handcrafted by Polish amber artisans) is unrivaled in elegance, style, and craftsmanship.
1.25" x 1.75".
Prized since the Stone Age, treasured by ancient civilizations, and coveted by 18th- and 19th-century European monarchs, amber (particularly 40,000-50,000 year-old Baltic amber) is still highly valued for its natural translucence. A glowing organic gemstone (naturally occurring in various shades of brown, yellow, or green), amber is actually the fossilized resin of prehistoric trees. Natural inclusions such as plant life or insects increase its worth.

"I had wanted this piece for a long time and was delighted to receive it as a birthday gift. It was lovely when I received it. I wore it a few times but then the Amber from the abdomen fell out leaving only the setting. I'm both disappointed this happened and also disappointed at the way Smithsonian Catalog responded to me when I let them know about the defect. It was literally days outside of the warranted return policy. My loss."

"In my opinion, the pin received is not as attractive as the one shown in the catalogue. This one looks as though it was "rushed"."
