Etched in solid brass, this African American History and Culture Museum Brass Corona Keychain with FREEDOM logo is mindfully aesthetic and on-message. The handsome openwork design of this African American History and Culture Museum Brass Corona Keychain reprises a unique motif ornamenting the Museum’s exterior corona, or crown. Hand-buff with a polishing cloth. Store in the sealed bag with anti-tarnish chip. Made in the U.S.A.
A striking memento, our African American History and Culture Museum Brass Corona Keychain echoes one of the openwork designs accenting the uppermost part of the Museum’s architecture, the corona. The Museum’s bronze-clad corona follows the classical column form of base, shaft, and capital. (In the fine artistic tradition of the Yoruba of West Africa, the column, or wood post, was usually crafted with a capital resembling a crown, or corona.) The corona’s motifs celebrate intricate ironwork designs created by enslaved African American craftspeople in Charleston and New Orleans. Reaching toward the sky, the corona expresses faith, hope and resiliency. The 19th and newest Smithsonian Institution Museum—the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC)—opens in fall 2016.

"I thought that it would be made of sturdier metal. I am afraid that it will not hold up over the long haul, but no problems yet."
