"I work in an Ophthalmology practice that includes Low Vision. I've been collecting interesting magnifiers for years. Love this one!"

"Apparently the Smithsonian store doesn't like to publish negative reviews about its products, because my first review has not even been added. Excluding negative reviews is unfair to customers, and does not provide an accurate representation of your products. I was dismayed on receipt of this item to not only find that the magnifying glass was smeared and contained small marks (which did not remove when cleaned with a lens cloth), but above all to find the product is made in Taiwan. I am highly disappointed with the fact that Smithsonian chose not to disclose this important fact - would not have ordered this item had it been disclosed up front that it was made in Taiwan. Customer Service was abysmal. They would not agree to even a small discount to keep the item "as is" (even though they were offering a site-wide discount of 25% right after I received my order), nor could they assure me that they could quickly ship a replacement out to me. I was expected to pay up front for the return shipping for an item that they agreed had a problem, then wait until they received the return before a replacement was even shipped. I explained I was on a time-line, and that this was to be a special gift, but Customer Service didn't care. I am now stuck with a sub-standard (i.e. defective glass), made in Taiwan item, that is an embarrassment to give as a gift. I thought the Smithsonian name counted for something, and that they would stand by their products. I also thought their products would be of high quality. I was wrong on both counts. I will not order from again, nor recommend, Smithsonian Store."
