We all love this lighted base so much that I am purchasing a second one. I purchased cheaper version of this base from Am*zon that was sub-standard and I immediately returned it. This base transitions colors very slowly and smoothly. Has been in 24 hour operation for over 3 weeks and with no problems. Here in S. California we spend a lot of time outside on our patio. This base operates on AC as well as battery power. We take the base and the jellyfish paper weight outside as part of our table lighting. Everyone loves it! Highly recommended!!! Los Angeles

I purchased this to show off the Jellyfish paperweight I bought. . As soon as I got it out of the box I noticed the mirror top was not centered over the lights. When adding new batteries I discovered it did not work with the batteries even after purchasing more and trying them. It did work with the power cord and was actually extremely lovely. Unfortunately, after plugging it in and displaying it 2-3 times the red and blue lights did not come on at all, only the green and it was dimmer. I had bought the set as a gift and was trying it out to make sure it worked properly. Fortunately, I did because I am going to return it and ask for a replacement hoping that I just got a lemon and the next one will be fine. houston, texas

This item has multiple uses. I can be used as a night light, (simple plug-in). I've got one in a curio cabinet, (this is where the duel voltage feature comes in handy as it runs off the AA batteries too), my wife has one in the kitchen, and there is one in my grandson's trophy case. Hawaii

This light base runs on batteries so you don't have to deal with cords. Since this came from the Smithsonian, I was expecting something that could light up museum quality pieces. Instead I got something that looks like a cheap light show, cycling through red, green, and blue light. I was impressed that they'd go to the trouble of using red, green, and blue bulbs to get a true white light. I guess I'm naïve! I don't mind paying extra for beautiful items from the Smithsonian to help support it, but these are way overpriced for their quality. Maryland
