Leather Strap Watch
Capture a moment in time. This quartz movement Leather Strap Watch replicates the one Jackie Kennedy was photographed wearing the year following the death of her husband, President Kennedy. While in mourning, Jackie decided to wear little or no jewelry. Because she had no suitable watch, she purchased a Leather Tank Watch from Cartier of New York with a unique fold-out butterfly clasp which would not scratch her nails. The simple face with gold-tone setting is flanked by 32 white Swarovski® crystals and features an green crystal-accented stem. The leather strap features alligator embossing. Alloy case. Elegant presentation box. Adjusts from 5.5" to 8.5"l.
Her memory still cherished by millions, Jackie Kennedy’s fashion choices—oversized sunglasses, glass pearls, statement jewelry, a simple tank watch—are as on-trend today as in the heyday of Camelot. Evocative of Kennedy style and memorabilia in the collections of our National Museum of American History, this Jackie Kennedy Leather Strap Watch recalls many of Jackie’s personal items, including gowns and her signature faux pearls, in First Ladies, one of our American History Museum’s most popular exhibits.
Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.
