Museum Provenance

Vermonter Wilson A. Bentley, also known as the snowflake man, was a self-educated farmer whose lifelong fascination with snowflakes turned a whimsical pursuit into a scientific breakthrough. The Smithsonian Archives include more than 500 photographs of Bentley’s snowflakes. Our snowflake inspired gifts depict several snowflake forms.

Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.
