Jim Shore® German Santa

Re-imagined as a jolly Father Christmas by American folk artist Jim Shore, this German Santa by Jim Shore wears his traditional lederhosen, displaying an idyllic mountain scene, and holds a cuckoo clock and a lidded beer stein. Collect this Jim Shore® German Santa along with the British, Irish and Italian Santas from Jim Shore’s Santas Around the World series. Hand painted stone resin. 6.75"h.
Jim Shore’s German Santa is inspired by a design or illustration in our Warshaw Collection of Business Americana, located in the Archives Center of our National Museum of American History, Behring Center. A vast assemblage of business ephemera, the collection includes Victorian-era postcards, greeting cards, letterheads, catalogues, advertisements and commerce-related memorabilia. Acquired by the Smithsonian Institution in 1967, this group of over one million items was the collection of Isadore Warshaw, a New York bookseller, who was concerned that the business community lacked interest in preserving its past.
Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.
