Additional Gemstone InformationThe most valuable gem variety of crystalline quartz, amethyst ranges in color from pale lilac to deep reddish purple. The official birthstone for those born in February, amethyst is said to help maintain calm and composure.
An important feldspar gemstone, labradorite's lovely iridescence arises from light diffracting off closely spaced layers of feldspar crystals. As the stone is rotated, flashes of blue, green, yellow, and red are displayed. Labradorite is named for Labrador where it was first discovered in 1770.
