Let the memorable quote (“Whatever you are, be a good one.”) indelibly fired into this Abe Lincoln Fused Glass Word Tile inspire you, a family member, or a friend. Individually handcrafted at the Michigan studio of Nina Cambron, a colorful palette of glass sheets and shards are cut, artfully layered and kiln fired at approximately 1500 degrees Fahrenheit to fuse the unique glass design. A low profile hanger on the back of this Abe Lincoln Fused Glass Word Tile allows you to display the tile on the wall or flat on a desktop. Because each tile is individually made, slight variations can be expected.  5"l. x 5"w. x 0.25"h.

Museum Provenance

The Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery, Donald W. Reynolds Center for American Art and Portraiture, celebrates American lives. Through the visual arts, performing arts and new media, the Portrait Gallery portrays leaders such as George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, statesmen such as Alexander Hamilton, artists like Mary Cassatt and Edward Hopper, authors including Harriet Beecher Stowe and Edith Wharton, poets like Walt Whitman, activists such as Rosa Parks and icons of pop culture such as Andy Warhol. Quotes and quips from many of these famous Americans have become part of American culture. Who hasn’t been inspired by Lincoln’s “You can not escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today” or been hopeful that Warhol’s “In the future, everyone will be famous for fifteen minutes,” might become true for them?

Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.
