Museum Provenance
The Lamb Collection of West African Textiles, jointly held by the National Museum of African Art and the National Museum of Natural History, has approximately 1,500 textiles and weaving implements. Our African inspired textiles and gifts, including jewelry and sculpture, reflect artifacts in the collections of both museums.
Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.
Loved the retro print so I gave it a try. It has some gapping in the chest, but that's a quick fix with a coordinating cami. Biggest drawback is the gaps below the waist. Brisk walking can show a lot of leg - I MEAN A LOT OF LEG right up to the hip! And as this is something best worn in warmer weather, leggings are not really an option.

Comments about Sunburst Batik Wrap Dress:
This dress is very nice for work. I do not think that the color complements my complexion. I have an olive complexion and I look best in bright colors. I did get a few complements the first time that I wore this dress.

Comments about Sunburst Batik Wrap Dress:
I wear this wrap-style dress with a cami, capri-type leggings and ballet flats -- or, when it's really hot, just sandals. It's great -- cool, comfortable, and adjustable. I ALWAYS get compliments, even from high-school students, so that's a plus! Yes, it wrinkles, but the wearability of cotton is worth it, and the dress's construction makes it easy to iron. The fabric feels a little stiff at first but softens with washing. Flattering colors, even for a pale blonde.

Comments about Sunburst Batik Wrap Dress:
Beautiful fabric . Excellent construction technique. Large size is a 14, not a 16 as has been my previous experience. Currently I have and am wearing 7 dresses from SI. Would return this but postage is high, so I will donate it to a thrift shop unworn. to future wearers, not an easy fabric to iron. Really disappointed dress was a poor fit. lovely to look at.

Comments about Sunburst Batik Wrap Dress:
For me, a petite person who is small busted, this wrap dress was far too large and gappy on top, and yet also too small on the bottom, not having adequate overlap on the wrap part. It's too bad, because the fabric and colors and nice.

Comments about Sunburst Batik Wrap Dress:
Diane from Severna Park and etherwf from Boise gave thorough and accurate reviews.
The dress has worked well for me. The color combination is a little different, but works well with several things I already have as camis or tank tops.
I am pear-shaped, so usually dresses are loose on top and snug on the bottom. This one worked, but -- as Diane noted -- the dress is cut relatively snugly on top.
