Appeal to his inner rebel with this American symbol of adventure. Still family-owned and operated, Schott NYC has been crafting quality jackets since 1913, most notably this legendary leather “Perfecto.” Designed and debuted by Schott in 1928, America’s first motorcycle jacket has been worn by many luminaries—among them, Bruce Springsteen, James Dean and Marlon Brando, whose jacket in "The Wild Ones" featured metal stars on the epaulets much like this Smithsonian exclusive. This rugged “looker” is built to last. Features include belted front; bi-swing action back; underarm sleeve gussets; zippered front, sleeves and three pockets; snap-down collar, lapels, epaulets, front pocket; helmet snap; and insulating, quilted-nylon lining. Genuine cowhide leather. Made in the U.S.A. Fit is true to size, but intentionally snug to keep out the air when riding. Even sizes 40 - 52.
Like men’s leather jackets among our costume collection’s 30,000 artifacts.
Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.
