With his exquisite, naturally-shed plumage and his bejeweled body, this magnificent Glittering Peacock Ornament is sure to become a treasured heirloom. Evocative of elegant old world ornaments, he can be perched almost anywhere—wreaths, garlands, centerpieces, or place settings, as well as atop the holiday tree—with the small clip underneath his body. Naturally shed feathers, faux gems, glitter. 13"l. x 4.5"w.
This splendid Glittering Peacock Ornament recalls the décor of the Freer Gallery of Art’s exhibit, The Peacock Room Comes to America. Painstakingly restored to its 1908 appearance, the original London shipping magnate’s dining room (painted by James McNeill Whistler in rich peacock hues overlain with golden peacock designs) was acquired in 1904 by Charles Lang Freer and moved it to his Detroit mansion. Later he donated it to the museum he established, the Freer Gallery of Art.
