Smithsonian Castle Luggage Tag
|A Smithsonian Institution Exclusive|
Buckle up! Readily identify your luggage with this sturdy Smithsonian Castle Luggage Tag. Stylishly fashioned from pebbled Italian leather, it attaches to your luggage with a polished brass buckle. The two halves pull apart easily to access the ID window. This Castle Luggage Tag is embossed on the front with a silhouette of the Smithsonian’s castle and on the back with the Smithsonian logo. Imported.
The silhouette gracing our exclusive Smithsonian Castle Luggage Tag celebrates the first Smithsonian Institution building, affectionately known as the “Castle.” Designed by architect James Renwick, Jr., and completed in 1855, its Gothic Revival style sought to emulate the architecture of England’s universities. Why the red sandstone façade? It was significantly less expensive than marble or granite. In 1965, the Smithsonian Castle was designated a National Historic Landmark.
Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.
