Flowing Peacock Coat
SPECIAL VALUE AT $135.00
Elegance meets panache in this striking and reversible Flowing Peacock Coat with graceful shawl collar and intriguing diagonal hem. Two silken jackets in one—each as sophisticated for a terrace cocktail as a night at the opera—the floral patterned turquoise of this Floral Peacock Coat reverses to a striking peacock feather motif. Lightweight, crinkle-look polyester. Imported. One size fits most.
In 1904 Charles Lang Freer acquired a London shipping magnate’s dining room (painted by James McNeill Whistler in rich peacock hues overlain with golden peacock designs) and moved it to his Detroit mansion. There he filled the shelves with the ceramics he had collected from Egypt and Asia. Restored to its 1908 appearance (including ceramics), it is on display at the Freer Gallery of Art’s exhibit, The Peacock Room Comes to America. This elegant, peacock-themed jacket takes its inspiration directly from this beautiful room.
