If using as a keychain be sure to add a drop off crazy glue to the screw at the top of the circle encasing the globe. Otherwise every time you pull it out of your pocket or purse you will be putting it back together and that is not a simple process. I bought this item on sale so it is okay but would not be worth it retail. Too expensive for the quality you get. Usually the Smithsonian gives us great quality stuff. Have to say I was disappointed with this item.

They are absolutely unique! The idea of using semi-precious stone for oceans and continents make this a different and interesting simple gift to give. I was very pleased with the look of the globes, however, 2 of them were somewhat stiff and would not spin initially. They did loosen up after 'working' them a bit. This raised some concern as to whether they will be able to stand up to regular use. Since this is a new purchase, only time and use will tell.
