As relevant for today’s eco-conscious locavores as the British home front in WWII, this durable retro-style Dig For Victory Mug features the fortifying “DIG FOR VICTORY” slogan on both sides. (The Smithsonian Institution Libraries include a copy of the original WWII Dig for Victory film.) Enamel-coated tin with steel rim. Not dishwasher safe; do not place in microwave.  16 oz.; 3.5"h.

Museum Provenance

During WWII, Americans were encouraged to plant home "victory gardens" to ensure there was enough commercially-produced produce for our troops. That extraordinarily successful volunteer effort is acknowledged today at our National Museum of American History Victory Garden, where over fifty classic plants and vegetable varieties are planted.

Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.
