Museum Provenance

As World War II loomed over the home front, everyone got behind the war effort. Even the games children played reflected the impact of the war. The Division of History of Technology at the National Museum of American History, Behring Center, includes the toy, “Junior Commander” Army-Navy Combat kit consisting of soldiers and a plane made of paper instead of diecast metal.

Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.
