Museum Provenance

The Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History features three butterfly exhibits. Partners in Evolution is a free-admission exploration into how insects and other animals have co-evolved with plants. The Butterfly Pavilion is a fee-based, live butterfly experience. The butterfly garden is located on the Ninth Street side of the National Museum of Natural History building. Four distinct habitats—wetland, meadow, wood's edge and urban garden—encourage visitors to observe the partnerships between plants and butterflies.

Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.
