Bohemia has a rich tradition of glass bead making that dates back to the 10th century. By the end of the 18th century, the demand for the brilliantly hued, beautifully formed glass was global. Beaded Bohemian glass necklaces were fashionable during the Victorian era. The costume collection at our National Museum of American History, Behring Center, contains over 30,000 garments and accessories reflecting the social, technological and economic changes affecting American dress from the 17th century to the present. Among the many accessories included in the collection are pieces of fashion jewelry.

It goes well with any color, particularly blue. I thought it would go with the warmer colors because of the flecks of yellow and orange, but it looks best with blue. It is not precious so would be good for traveling. It is sparkly and is suitable for day or evening.

'Three strand, costume, chocker, lady's necklace composed of Aurora Borealis molded crystal marqis leaf beads and round, faceted Aurora Borealis beads intespersed per every three (3) leaves. Between every bead is a silver colored, spherical bead approx. 2mm in diameter. the marquis' appear to measure approximately 8xmm and appear to be set in rounded-off 'V' type prongs. The piece measures approx. 15" to 16.5" in overall length when worn. the triple-strand clasp features a lobster clasp on one side and a 1.5 inch open curb link chain on the other allowing for slight length variation. The overall color is white and colorless-clear with a surface treatment of opalescent rainbows." all from a photo. It's great fun to wear and doesn't really look like diamonds up close, but sure can feel like diamonds, it's great fun!

I have bought jewelry before and items always came in a very nice box.
This came in a plastic bag not suitable to give as a gift especially for the price. It looks like it had been worn and returned. Will be sending it back. Shame on you Smithsonian. Now I have to scramble to find something else!
