Museum Provenance
Woodworking skills and techniques include carpentry, joinery, marquetry and carving. Wood turning is the shaping of wood by rotating it on a lathe. Both crafts are reflected in the permanent collections of our Renwick Gallery and the temporary exhibit, A Revolution in Wood: The Bresler Collection and in our National Museum of Natural History.
Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.
