Vermonter Wilson A. Bentley, also known as the snowflake man, was a self-educated farmer whose lifelong fascination with snowflakes turned a whimsical pursuit into a scientific breakthrough. The Smithsonian Archives include more than 500 photographs of Bentley’s snowflakes. Our snowflake inspired gifts depict several snowflake forms. Snowglobes are in our home life collection.

Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.

My daughter, as a child, always loved snow globes. I bought her one from the Smithsonian Catalog when she was married. She and her husband are now purchasing their first home. I thought it was fitting to add a snowglobe from Smithsonian for their new home. They live in northern California where their is no snow. They have a small child who absolutely loves snow. Very fitting.

I purchased this item for a friend for the holidays. She collects globes...this globe has a "wintery" look and sparkles while "Deck the Halls" twinkles on. I know she will love it, especially coming from the Smithsonian website. The website is easy to use and a lot of fun to shop there. It was shipped to me promptly and arrived in Upstate NY in perfect condition.Thanks.
