This was a gift for my husband who is often hard to please, but this one was a winner! He loves the beauty and simplicity of the globe, which now has a prominent place on his desk. It also looked pretty in our living room, but is better suited for an office. I will definitley order this again as a gift.

I was looking for a Christmas gift for an exchange student from Brazil that would be a lasting reminder of his stay here in the Washington DC area. The globe paperweight was a great choice since his native Brazil was prominently noted on the globe as well as that of Washington DC. The quality,as well as the beauty of the paperweight, will make it a treasured memento for years to come.

The paperweight was bought for my geologist daughter to use on her home antique desk. She is a professor and certainly does not need any more mineral samples, but I am hoping the globe is unique. I know she can define each mineral in its make-up.

Since I am a Smithsonian member I expected a discount, which I did not get. Why is that?

I display the globe in the living room. It is a symbol of our loving to travel.
A bigger globe, say 6" diam., would be even more interesting, but surely more expensive. This one works well as a conversation starter, and we can refer to an atlas for more detail.
